
COME SPY WITH ME – back in 1966

Musical Theatre Melodies broadcast on Tuesday, 23rd June will feature a 60th anniversary tribute to the Bryan Blackburn musical Come Spy With Me, from the 1966 original London cast recording starring Danny La Rue, Barbara Windsor and Richard Wattis, with Dennis Lotis, Bernard Finch, Barrie Gosney, Valerie Walsh and Rose Hill.
This will be preceded by an introduction by the British Musical Theatre historian, archivist and author – Rex Bunnett.
The programme will conclude with a selection of songs recorded by Barbara Windsor from Lionel Bart’s Twang!! and Danny La Rue from Jerry Herman’s Hello, Dolly!
THE BAKER’S WIFE – from screen to stage

Musical Theatre Melodies broadcast on Tuesday, 16th June will feature a 50th anniversary tribute to the Stephen Schwartz musical The Baker’s Wife (based on the film “La Femme du Boulanger” by Marcel Pagnol & Jean Giono, from the 1976 original U.S. tour cast recording starring Paul Sorvino, Patti LuPone, Kurt Peterson and Teri Ralston; plus additional numbers written for the 1989 London production from the cast recording starring Alun Armstrong, Sharon Lee Hill, Jill Martin, George Raistrick, James Villiers, John Bennett and Neil McCaul.
THE MOST HAPPY FELLA – still standing on the corner at 70

Musical Theatre Melodies broadcast on Tuesday, 2nd June will feature a 70th anniversary tribute to the Frank Loesser musical The Most Happy Fella (based on the play “They Knew What They Wanted” by Sidney Howard), from the 1956 original Broadway cast recording (complete with dialogue), starring Robert Weede, with Jo Sullivan, Art Lund, Susan Johnson, Shorty Long and Mona Paulee.
